Wild Yam Extract

Wild Yam Extract is NOT Natural Progesterone

Diosgenin is an organic compound found in wild yams. It is found in other plants as well but not in amounts significant enough to be of value. Scientists convert diosgenin in laboratories into natural progesterone. This does not mean that your body can make progesterone from diosgenin. Although wild yams do have some effect on the body, it's just not known exactly what it is. Whatever its effects are it does not have the same benefits as progesterone.

Diosgenin is significantly less expensive than real progesterone. Many companies sell wild yam products containing diosgenin stating that they provide the same benefits as progesterone. It is also added to many genuine progesterone creams in which it is usually identified as "dioscorea" or "wild yam extract". There is usually not enough diosgenin in these creams to have much of a physiologic effect. In either case it is a marketing angle designed to confuse the consumer about the differences between wild yam and progesterone.

Is important to note that just because a skin cream contains natural progesterone this is not a guarantee of therapeutic value. Dr. John R. Lee, MD recommends progesterone creams have 900mg to 960mg of natural progesterone per 2oz. It must also be suspended in the proper medium in order for it to be adequately absorbed. Our Natural Progesterone Cream is manufactured synergistically correct. Its combination of ingredients is formulated to enhance maximum absorbency of the progesterone.
